SW City in top 700 of Folding@Home
Posted Tuesday, December 24, 2002 by Comit
657th place to be exact. May not sound like a big deal but its taken us a few months now to get that far (we started in 3000+ or something lol), and there are tens of thousands of Folders. We won't be going much farther though without some more members though >_<. So, here's a little list of "why not fold?".
1. Runs in the background and takes up less than 2 MB of RAM at any time.
2. Will only do it's work when the CPU has spare mhz, such as when your computer is idle.
3. Only needs about 200-300kb of bandwidth total per project (which takes my 1.5 ghz machine 17 hours to do).
4. Download it, install it and forget it =)
5. Last, it's a charitable act. In a nutshell, the program simulates a protein "folding", which is does before it carries out it's purpose in the body. However folding is so complicated that each project only simulates a few nanoseconds of the fold process. So the more computers simulating, the quicker the lab can understand why proteins misfold which causes a hand full of fatal diseases.
Once again, our team number is 11039

Day 1 at the ruins
Posted Saturday, December 14, 2002 by Comit
The build raise got off to a slow start, but picked up along the way. There were a good number of people there but only 4 buildings >_<
Come tomorow, same time, for day 2 =)
Ongoing build raising tomorow
Posted Thursday, December 12, 2002 by Comit
We'll be hosting another build raising tomorow, the 13th, at 9pm VRT. The theme this time is ruined city. A meteor named Pelma crashed into the northern coast of Sybit Island causing a crater so big that it made a new bay on the island. The shockwave destroyed all surrounding buildings, which is where we come in. We'll be building a ruined, destroyed area of town that was once a busy urban area. Build blown out buildings, crashed vechicles, downed billboards, etc. Unlike the last build raising, you do this in your own account and the event will last a few days, but, we're hoping to get the most done the first couple hours.
Location: AW 1457S 3672E 270
Notice: There's supose to be a huge storm here tomorow, so if I don't make it, my power may be down. Hope to see you there O,O!

For those of you who are actively using AW and/or come to this site but not the forums, you may notice that SW City has been pprreettyy slow lately. Here's what I know:
Syntax - citizenship temporary dead, should be renewing soon.
SW Chris - he's on a couple times a week, working on Nimbus Palace in Nimbus Land
Captain MAD Mike - >_< hasn't really done anything in AW in ages.
Nutinmuch - Addicted to The Sims Online, I think.
OniLink - Sorta the same as CMM. Been playing a couple RPGs.
Vornox - Off in far away lands fighting Gooberese ^_^
as for me, I just haven't had the urge to get on AW and do anything lately. Hardly even have the urge to play any ol' game either on my computer O_O
But the forums are still active, so drop by =)...or Flint will come after you >_<
