Imagine over at “Image” world has created some nice skinned avatars (finally, someone did) and they are quite nice. This needs to be the future of Alphaworld avatar representation (>
). If you haven’t seen the avatars, check ’em out in the world I named above and try some seq’s with ’em.
wow.. finally…
It’s been what? 4 years?
Yea honestly… its ridiculous.
About time these start leaking in and phasing out the old 1997 avatars.
Wonder if this could be used to cleverly modify objects with new features.. (like twist.. or squish)
4 years since what? When Robbie posted a thread in newsgroups about skinned avatars? I remember that thread and also when Robbie asked E N Z O if he can release information about how to make skinned avatars. What did Mr. Noll say? He said no, because there are still bugs to be worked out. Now, is skinned avatar portion of the browser’s rendering engine aspect really that complicated to make and to make it as less as buggy?
4 years since it’s been announced that skinned avatars would appear in Active Worlds I think.
Not really 4 years….2.5?
Skinned avatars have been available since 3.6. Just never been used.
wotcha talkin’ about. They’ve been available since 3.3 O_o
o rly? :X
ya rly, I think they came around using the same “technology” that terrain used. They were possible in theory, but there wasn’t any documentation at that time on how to make them. Robbie immediately was able to make one skinned avatar, but her arms were constantly outstretched.
Cits only, soneone post some screenies :]
the current Avatars are just colored geometric brushes, the new ones are actually modelled and textured, much like characters in mainstream games.
Was going to say that me
You couldn’t tell any different from a screenshot really…Skinned avatar is all about how the animations look better vs a well made regular avatar.
Maybe some video footage then?
Yesp, maybe that would help.
I think i noticed a difference, not sure though
The diffrence in a still picture is you can see the joints look better on a skinned av this is because the mesh is one whole thing not loads of object stuck together
yeah, not barbie-doll style limbs attached tothe body deal
Hi
I am the Imagine that is mentioned in this thread. I just want to say, the picture that Chris Cat posted is not one of my skinned avatars. Here is my skinned avatar web page. http://www.sistasr4ever.com/imagine/skinned.htm
Those are my first skinned avatars, and I also have a male that will be added to it in a few days. I am also working on an avatar of Leo DiCaprio, with a head that looks exactly like him.
You are welcome to come to my world Image to check them out at the coords on the web page. There is a big diference between skinned avatars and regular rwx avatars and you will see the difference when you check them out.
At the coords on the web page I have some model of the skinned avatars and some of my rwx avatars using the new model seqs so you can see them moving. If you would like to try the actual avatar, please look on my av list in the Skinned avatar section. The avatar in the picture Chris Cat posted was not in the skinned avatar section. This is how rumors start. Right now Chris Cat has you all thinking that my skinned avatars look like that pic. I don’t get upset often, but the av work I have been doing to bring skinned avatars into AW, so others can use them, is hard work. So, if you are going to talk about my skinned avs Chris, please get it right.
