Upcoming Server Maintenance

Due to the recent security vulnerability in the Linux kernel (https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=516949) which we have seen being exploited in the wild, our host will be continuing to upgrade kernel version for the SW City server Friday night. This may affect the SW City Website and Forum, the Academy, SW City Interactive, the SWiki, and any images and sounds hosted on SWCity.net. Please note that the current Linux kernel has been patched and as such our server is still secure from any vulnerabilities, this is just a follow-up update on the kernel version. This may require a reboot but the downtime will be very minimal barring any unforeseen circumstances.

Maintenance Date: Friday, October 9, 2009

Maintenance Time: Beginning at 8:00pm EST

SW City Moving to Second Life

Hello everyone,

This may be hard for some of you to hear.  After long & hard deliberations in the management forum among ourselves and extensive talks with Activeworlds, Inc., we have decided to move to Second Life.  The reasons are many, but in reality certain someones at the company who shall not be named here were not able to meet our, imho, very reasonable requests.  Since we contribute so much to the Community (actually we pretty much keep The place from going under) we asked them for A salary.  Not A living wage, mind you, but just something to keep us going during these tough economic times.  We also wanted our own world so that we could finally have Sovereignty over our city.  They were willing to talk about the world to A degree, but the cheapskates wouldn’t recognize the valuable contribution that we provide them in terms of new users who flock to see our city and play our SW Interactive game, and everybody knows that more users equals more income and that we’re the ones providing the users through our slavishly hard labor at making A great experience in Alphaworld.  In fact everybody knows that people come to aW to see only the Best, and that’s clearly SW City.

But these certain someones weren’t willing to share and are profiting off our our hard work!  Since we’re really the only community that’s propping up this place, we’ve decided to make our threats public & move, so they can see how they like it and put that in their pipe and smoke it.

It’s A sad day for all of us.  Not just for AWI, but for you, because we’re just too good for you.  You really don’t deserve all of the hard work we do for this community, and quite frankly we’re all tired of the constant bickering and complaining you people do about us, about crap on the forums, and about yourselves.  We want everyone to get along.  But clearly that is impossible, so we’re going somewhere where people do get a long, where money can be made, and where there are happy Polygonal flowers and sunshine rays and real shadows.

So long suckers!  Enjoy the vr apolcalyps! LOLoL!

Nah, just kiddin.

April Fools!

Where Are They Now?: Yeti Appointed a San Diego County Commissioner

Yeti (real name Ryan Trabuco), owner of the now retired virtual town Yeti City, has been appointed to the Alcohol & Drug Advisory Board of San Diego county in California as a commissioner.  He will be one of several people on the board whose responsibility it is to prevent drug and alcohol abuse within the county.  It’s a big step up for Ryan in his political career and we all wish him well.

You can become a fan of his on Facebook here, and follow him on Twitter here.  Be sure to follow him, because I have a feeling he’ll be making a splash in the national political scene someday.

“First of all, I would like to thank everyone for all of their input, advice, and suggestions. Also, I want to express to you my gratitude for allowing us the time to compile, research, and deliberate over our next group excursion. When making decisions like this there are a lot of things we must consider for the greater good of everyone’s needs and wants. With all that aside..

Rising Glen Retreat Grand Opening Event This Weekend!

Some real estate news has come in today: Rising Glen Incorporated has announced the grand opening of a new residential development in the Southern Highlands.  The new area, named Rising Glen Retreat lies outside of Obsidian Cove, a newly established settlement in this wilderness area of the Outerlands.

Rising Glen Retreat is the first privately owned residential development opened since Castle Pines Country Club was released on Sybit Island, and the managers of the new neighborhood have big plans in store.  This first development, being one of several planned building phases, has vacancies for 18 builders.  The neighborhood is situated in a wilderness paradise, and has a very rural feel to it.

Any builders interested in exploring Rising Glen Retreat are asked to come to the grand opening, on Sunday, October 7, 2007 at 5pm VRT.  To do so, simply join Hyper Anthony at that time.

You can read the rest of the announcement here.
