Alphaworld Updates

The Alphaworld train keeps on chugging forward with the much-needed addition of a global chat channel which is being controlled by Strike’s Eclipse Evolution; the same system that is used in AWTeen which means there are jump points and the whole 9-yards. Also, tourist building has been re-added after 6 or 7 years of being locked down.

    This doesn’t render ScaraNet and MadCorp Chat Relay Network ( ) obsolete, does it? I guess those are the niche products that allow the custom chat channels that go beyond the local area but not to the entire world.

    The new global chat system allows custom channels as well, but they’re not going to set those up immediately.

    Scaranet is still needed for SWI validation.

    Update:  Mark has added a special channel for SW City.  In order to use it, say…

    ^jc #swcity

    If you are already on the global chat channel, then all of your messages will go to that channel by default.  In order to send a message to SW’s channel, the command is…

    /c #swcity your message

    Or if you don’t want to send messages to the global channel by default, you can make SW’s channel your main channel by saying…

    ^cs/default #swcity

    So basically it works just like a clan/group/wotever channel in MMO’s.  Pretty straightfoward.

    So confusing.  Can you be on more than one channel at a time and have your messages go to all channels?  Or do I have to type a paragraph of dos commands every time I say something?

    You have a default channel that you’re always on — if you havn’t changed it then its the #world channel — and if you add channels later you receive messages from them, but can’t send messages to that channel without adding the /c #channel prefix.

    I was popping around on AW today, just hanging out, minding my own business, when BAM, it crashes twice within 10 minutes.  When this gets fixed, I’ll rejoin.
